I happened to come across this article recently- it’s a must- read! This guy is a very accomplished jazz violinist, and he sheds some insight into his opportunistic attitude toward practice. PS- when he uses the verb “shedding”, it’s a colloquial term used by musicians when referring to doing repetitive work on particularly difficult phrases/ spots in the music, a shortened version of “wood-shedding”. And he’s right- there’s always need for shedding. 🙂
