I am a certified teacher in both vocal and instrumental music, and I have been teaching privately since high school. I now primarily teach out of my home, offering private lessons to students in the greater Kansas City area. I provide lessons to students for their individual goals and to support school and community orchestras through quality private instruction.
I have had over 20 years of experience teaching in the music studio, and my most memorable moments have been witnessing the “lightbulb moments” of my students. I enjoy the process of working one-on-one to create a custom learning plan for students of various ages and diverse learning styles. Some of my favorite students have been those who took up the instrument as an adult because they “always wanted to play”, and they confirmed to me one is never too old to start. Other favorite students have been those who needed extra help beyond orchestra class: their dedication and passion for the instrument often exceeded those to whom the instrument came easily.
My philosophy about teaching is just about summed up as this: Observe carefully, teach wholistically, encourage consistently, and cultivate the musicality that resides inside each student.
